Stellite®6 is the most common cobalt wear-resistant alloy. Its resistance to sliding and abrasive wear comes from the high volume fraction of carbides formed by 1.2% carbon alloy, 5% copper tungsten and 30% chromium.

It is the most widely used wear-resistant cobalt-based alloy and exhibits good overall performance. It is considered to be the industry's general wear standard resistance application, has excellent resistance to various forms of mechanical and chemical degradation within the temperature range, and maintains a reasonable hardness up to 500°C (930°F). It also has good impact resistance and cavitation resistance.
